MS2000R

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Four voice dual 'VCO' (& noise) with six input/two output mixer, multi-mode 'VCF' and 'VCA'. Two EGs, Two LFOs, and a wild modulation sequencer unit. Wallwart power supply. MIDI In, Out, & Thru. Two analog outs (L/Mono & Right) and two analog inputs.

WHY IT IS PART OF HdK: From the moment this synth was introduced, I knew I wanted it. The street price was extremely low for what it did. Unfortunately, Korg has never been able to supply enough of these units to stores. Everytime I visited my synth dealer, I would ask if they had any MS2000Rs in stock. Always the answer was no. Finally, one day I was at the dealer for another reason and asked out of habbit if they had any MS2kRs on hand. Surprise, they did! I had to get it right then. Basically, your impulse purchase.

Prophecy

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Mono voice dual 'VCO' (with sub osc & noise) with six input/two output mixer, weird-o waveform effector, dual 'VCF' and 'VCA'. Six EGs, Four LFOs, and a decent effects unit. Three octave keyboard with internal power supply & detachable IEC cord. MIDI In, Out, & Thru. Two analog outs (L/Mono & Right).

WHY IT IS PART OF HdK: I always wanted one way cool modeling synth. From what I learned from various pages on the web, this was the toy for me. It took several tries connecting with various individuals who were selling their via the net. Most flaked on me or in someway disappointed. I eventually got one with both manuals for $650 in Feb '98. Don't even consider buying this unless both manuals are included. It is a programming delight. Not only that, it sounds wonderful and has a great feel.

ER-1

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: asdfasdf. Wallwart power supply. MIDI In, Out, & Thru. Two analog outs (L/Mono & Right) and two analog inputs.

WHY IT IS PART OF HdK: Not satisfied at all with the weak drums of the MC-303, or the highly realistic drums of the D4, I got very excited with the introduction of the analog modeling drums of the ER-1. Playing with it is quite intuitive and patterns almost fall out of the machine by themselves. Lots of pure rhythm fun.

D8

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Eight track hard disc recorder. Only two channel at a time recording. Many effects. Line wart power cord. MIDI In & Out. Two analog ins (L/Mono & Right), two analog outs (L/Mono & Right), S/P-DIF I/O via Toslink, SCSI.

WHY IT IS PART OF HdK: The need for multitrack recording was building, so I took the plunge. I had to weigh carefully the power of doing the same thing on computer against the convinience and low cost of a stand alone unit. Since I shy away from computer use in the studio, this was the logical solution.
