D4

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: 16-voice one part drum rompler. 500 sounds. 1U box with wallwart power supply. MIDI In & Out/Thru. Four outputs (Main:L/Mono & Right, Sub:L & R)

WHY IT IS PART OF HdK: I grew tired of the MC-303 drums and yurned for something new. I bought this box (for about $120) and the Yamaha QX5 sequencer to form a drum machine. Excellent sounds. I would personally classify it as a 'rock' drum module because the sounds are so realistic. But, many sounds are useful for electronic as well.

DataDisk SQ

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: A MIDI filer that can also record and playback MIDI files from a floppy in realtime. 1U box with removable wallwart power supply. MIDI In & Out.

WHY IT IS PART OF HdK: I really have some sort of disdain for computers when it comes to synthesis. So, I had to buy this fun unit to store all my SysEx dumps without turning on the computer. Very easy to use.
